5:55am. This morning MVFD and Carmel Police Department, NY were dispatched by Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services to a residence on Mountain View Dr for a reported oil burner malfunction.

First arriving units were met with a heavy smoke condition in the basement it was quickly discovered that it was not an oil burner malfunction, but a self extinguished fire in the bathroom. Fire was contained to the wastebasket and burned itself out burning against the tile wall. Companies found no extension into the walls and vented the heavily smoked filled residence.

MVFD EMS transported residents from the home for evaluation due to heavy smoke exposure.
